Alabama's low-speed vehicle (LSV) law lets qualifying carts run on roads with speed limits of 25 mph or less — but only if they meet specific equipment and safety requirements. We handle the conversion and assign a valid VIN so you can register, tag, and insure.
What Alabama Requires For LSV Compliance:
- Headlights, tail lights, turn signals
- Brake lights with hand brake
- DOT-approved windshield
- Seat belts (one per passenger)
- Side and rearview mirrors
- Speedometer + odometer
- 17-character VIN assignment
- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO)
Alabama LSV Rules To Know:
- Speed limit: LSVs can only operate on roads with posted speed limits of 25 mph or less
- Registration: Must be registered with your county and display a valid license plate
- Insurance: Liability insurance is required, just like a regular vehicle
- Driver's license: The driver must hold a valid driver's license (minimum age 16)
- All traffic laws apply: Stop signs, signals, DUI laws — same rules as driving a car
- Local ordinances: Some municipalities have additional requirements — check with your city
Important: A standard golf cart (max speed under 20 mph) without proper safety equipment cannot legally be driven on Alabama public roads. It must be converted to an LSV with a valid VIN and MSO to be registered. We handle the entire process — just bring us the cart.
